Privacy policy
Last updated October 21, 2026
Academic Contacts is run by [LLC NAME], based in Massachusetts ("we", "us"). We build contact lists of people who work at US colleges and universities for companies that sell to them. This policy covers two groups: people who visit this website, and people whose work details appear in our lists. If you have a question, email hello@academiccontacts.com.
If you visit this website
- We don't use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers.
- Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you asked for, to run and protect the site.
- If you email us, we use what you send (your name, email, company and request) to reply, quote and deliver your order. We don't add you to a mailing list or sell your details.
If you appear in our lists
What we hold. Work information that colleges and universities publish about their people: name, job title, department, institution, work email and phone, office, pronouns where listed, the text of a public profile (such as research interests or a short bio), and the address of the page we found it on. We also add labels such as the school's type and region, and the date we last saw you listed. We don't collect home addresses, personal phone numbers, financial details, or anything from behind a login.
Where it comes from. Public directory and profile pages on college and university websites, and public data about institutions from the US Department of Education.
Why we use it. To build lists for businesses that want to reach people in a professional role, for example a lab supplier looking for researchers who use a certain technique. We also use it to keep our data current, for instance noticing when someone has left a school.
Who we share it with. Business customers who pay for a list. Our terms allow them to use it only for their own business outreach, not to resell it, and require them to follow anti-spam and privacy laws. Some state laws call this a "sale" of personal information. We also use service providers, such as email and hosting, that handle data only on our behalf, and we may disclose information if the law requires it.
Remove me, and your other choices
Anyone can ask us, wherever they live. Email hello@academiccontacts.com from the address you want removed, or tell us which address it is, and say what you'd like:
- Remove me / do not sell my info. We delete your details from our data and stop including you in lists we sell. We keep only your email address and name on a do-not-contact list, so we don't add you back the next time we read your school's website.
- See what we hold about you, and where we got it.
- Correct something that's wrong.
We reply within 45 days, usually much sooner. We may ask you to confirm the request comes from you, normally by replying from the address in question. We can't take back copies of a list that a customer received before your request, but removal stops you from being included in any future list. We won't treat you differently for using any of these choices.
State privacy rights
Residents of California and several other states have rights under state law to know what personal information a business collects, sells or shares, to have it deleted or corrected, and to opt out of its sale. The choices above cover those rights, and we offer them to everyone. Over the past 12 months we have collected the categories of information described above (identifiers such as name and work email, and professional or employment information), from the sources described above, for the purposes described above, and we sell them to business customers. You can make a request yourself or through an authorized agent.
How long we keep it, and security
We keep a person's details while they're listed on their school's public pages, and mark them as no longer seen when they disappear. We keep emails from customers and prospects as long as we need them for our business and records. We protect our data with access limited to the people who run Academic Contacts, and we use reputable providers. No system is perfectly secure, and we'll tell you if a breach affects you when the law requires it.
Children
This site and our service are for businesses. We don't knowingly collect information about children under 16.
Changes
We'll update this page when our practices change and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be noted here.
